How many pounds of clover do I need to plant

If you’re like me, you typically use a calculator to figure out how much clover see you need for your food plot. Planting the right amount of seed is critical to the success of your clover planting.

Different types of clover require different amounts of seed per acre. Make sure you plant the right amount of seed based on the type of clover you are planting. Additionally, if you are broadcasting your seed on the ground you will need more seed than if you were drilling that seed into the ground with equipment.

There are other considerations to keep in mind when deciding how much seed you need. On the bag of seed you are buying there will be a seed label like the one in the picture below. Make sure you take a look at the percentage of seed that is in that bag and the germination rates of that seed.

Other factors such as seed coating, weather, ground conditions, and competing vegetation are other factors that can influence your decision on how much seed to buy.

Planting food plots is an imperfect science. Once you plant your clover and it starts to grow you can take notes on how it did and make adjustments to make it better.

With that being said, in the table below I compiled a list that will tell you how much seed you need to plant based on the size of your food plot and the type of clover you are planting

I also attached a link at the bottom of the page to show you which clover seed I for my food plots.

This is how many pounds of clover seed you need per acre
